Outside of my internship, I had a great group of people to rely on. For example, the wonderful international staff at Tunghasi University! The Tunghai University Summer Program welcomed me and other Davidson Students as members of their group despite not being formally enrolled in their summer classes program. With TUnghai University, I had the oppurtunity to visit many famous sites in Taiwan. The most memorable trip we took together was visiting the famous Sun-Moon Lake 日明湖. Since I don't know how to ride a bike, I was paired with a student from Washington on a tandem bicycle. Together we rode around the beautiful lake and enjoyed hearing about the history with our guide.
Another experience that I have to reminisce on is my experience with the teachers at National Experimental High School. Teachers there took me under their wing both in the classroom and outside in the world of Taiwan. I look back fondly at the wonderful conversations I had on the beach, in museums, the farmers markets, the wetlands, and even their homes. In these moments I was accepted, not just as a foreigner but a new friend.
